Acura is basing its new entry-level luxury SUV on the same global platform as the Honda HR-V and other models. But unlike the subcompact HR-V's noisy and lackluster 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the ADX uses a more-powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine also found in the Integra sedan. The ADX is offered in three trim levels, and all available with front- or all-wheel drive. In addition to the more luxurious interior, sport-tuned suspension, and stylish exterior, the ADX features a number of additional tweaks to keep the cabin quiet, addressing a problem we found with the HR-V. A full suite of standard active safety and driver assistance features rounds out that package.

The Integra name is resurrected for Acura's entry-level four-door hatchback. It's essentially an upscale version of the Civic and is powered by a 200-hp, 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder shared with the sporty Civic Si. Most versions come with a continuously variable transmission, which dilutes the Integra's sporting pretense--we much prefer the slick-shifting sixspeed manual. Handling is responsive, but the ride is choppy, and the car suffers from excessive road noise. The controls are simple but are barely differentiated from the Civic's, and the same goes for much of the interior design and layout. As such, the Integra lacks the premium ambience of its entry-level luxury competitors. Standard active safety features include AEB with pedestrian detection, BSW, RCTW, LKA, LDW, LCA, and ACC. The Type S, with a 320-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder paired to a six-speed manual, was new for 2024. For 2026, all Integra trims received minor exterior and interior updates, as well as a standard 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless charging pad, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Redesigned for 2022, the MDX remains a functional three-row luxury SUV that's priced lower than German competitors. The standard 290-hp V6 engine is slick and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a powertrain that works well. Fuel economy is 20 mpg overall. The ride is comfortable and handling is secure but pretty mundane. The front seats are wide and supportive, and the interior is well made. The rear seat's midsection is removable, which creates an aisle to the third row. The biggest knock against the MDX is the infotainment system's reliance on a finicky touchpad to interact with the screen; we found it very distracting to use, forcing long glances away from the road. 2025 models got an easier-to-use touchscreen that replaces the touchpad system. The MDX comes with a full suite of active safety features, including FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, BSW, RCTW, LKA, LDW, LCA, and ACC.

This generation of RDX drives nicely, but its very confusing and distracting controls hurt the overall package. The 2.0-liter, turbo four-cylinder is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It's an energetic powertrain once it gets past its initial hesitation. We got 22 mpg overall with all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive was available through the 2023 model year. The RDX is enjoyable to drive. It feels lively and engaging, and has nimble handling. We did, however, find the controls to be extremely distracting because of the fussy touchpad that interacts with the center screen. It forces drivers to divert their attention from the road too often and for too long. The RDX is also saddled with a cumbersome push-button gear selector. The seats are comfortable, and interior room is on a par with the class. All RDXs come standard with the AcuraWatch safety system, which includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking; blind spot warning became standard with the 2022 model year. ACC, LCA, LKA, and LDW are standard as part of the AcuraWatch safety system. The RDX received an updated center console design, standard wireless charging pad, and minor exterior styling updates for 2025.

The Acura RSX from the early 2000s was a compact, sporty coupe. This isn’t that same Acura. The new RSX, scheduled to hit dealerships in the second half of 2026, will be an electric crossover SUV. While details are scarce now, we know that the RSX Prototype includes dual-motor all-wheel drive and the ability to power a home during a power outage. The new RSX will also debut ASIMO OS, a new in-car infotainment operating system developed by Acura’s parent company Honda and named for Honda’s beloved humanoid robot. This new crossover will be the first vehicle built on a new EV platform engineered entirely by Honda that will underpin new Acura and Honda electric models to come. Acura will manufacture the RSX at its factory in Ohio.

The redesigned for 2021 TLX is an sleek sedan that's larger than the competition but not roomier. The standard 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic and together feel energetic. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional; the more powerful Type S only gets AWD. The ride is quite comfortable and handling is nimble, but the driving experience is underwhelming. Road and engine noise undermine the premium pretense. Drivers interact with the infotainment display via a touchpad. We found this system very distracting and unintuitive to use. Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane centering assistance, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance are standard. Initially the Technology package was required to get blind spot warning, but it became standard with a refresh in 2024. The refresh also brought a larger infotainment screen with quicker processing and, according to Acura, a quieter cabin. 2025 is the final year for the TLX.

The Giulia is Alfa's entry in the compact-luxury-sport-sedan segment. It corners and steers like a sports car, making it fun to drive. The 280-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four is mated to an eight-speed automatic and provides punchy acceleration even in the all-wheel-drive version. Ride comfort is civilized even though it has a firm edge. Fuel economy at 27 mpg overall is one of the best in the class. The interior is attractive with matte wood and nicely textured surfaces but cheap switchgear detracts. The infotainment system is too convoluted and distracting. Seat comfort is compromised by a short cushion and limited range of adjustments. The trunk is small. The top-trim, high-performance Quadrifoglio version uses a 505-hp, 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 and ups the ante in the sport quotient at the expense of comfort. Standard advanced safety features such as forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are new for 2020. A new 8.8-inch touch-screen infotainment system and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility are standard. Also added are interior trim enhancements, and a more user-friendly infotainment system. For 2025, the high-performance Quadrifoglio version is discontinued.

The Stelvio is based on Alfa's Giulia sedan and, like it, delivers fantastic handling and is fun to drive. That, however, doesn't mean it's fun to live with on a daily basis. Positioned to compete with high-end and sporty SUVs such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Porsche Macan, the Stelvio falls a bit short on the refinement and luxury quotients. The standard engine is a punchy 280-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that gets 24 mpg overall on premium. The ride is a bit jittery, but the suspension absorbs bumps rather well. Among constant annoyances are a driving position with a limited range of seat adjustments and controls that are not user-friendly enough. Like the Giulia, the parking sensors are too sensitive, going off constantly in an urban environment. Rear and side visibility are wanting, and the cargo hold is modest. Standard advanced safety features such as forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are new for 2020. Also new are interior enhancements, and a more user-friendly infotainment system with a standard 8.8-inch touch-screen. For 2025, the Quadrifoglio is dropped, and the consolidation of trim offerings means AWD is now standard.

Audi improves upon its capable entry-level sedan with an all-new 2022 model featuring sleek exterior styling; a more refined, driver-focused interior; and technology upgrades that are already standard on larger and more expensive Audis. Among them are an optional configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster and active driver assistance features. The car has larger interior and exterior dimensions than the previous iteration. The S3 augments its more staid A3 sibling with a lower stance, a more powerful engine, bigger, vented front brakes and vented rear brakes, and Audi's adaptive sport suspension system. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are standard. Front-wheel drive was available through 2024. The A3 is only available in the U.S. as a four-door sedan. The high-performance RS 3 version gets a turbocharged five-cylinder engine. Both the A3 and S3 come standard with lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Pre-sense, a system that does things like pretension occupants’ seat belts, close the side windows and sunroof, and activate the hazard flashers if the driver brakes hard or the electronic stability control is activated, indicating an impending crash. Adaptive cruise control, parking assist, blind spot warning, rear Pre-sense, and rear cross traffic warning are optional until 2024. For 2025, blind spot warning, blind spot assistance, rear cross traffic warning and reverse automatic emergency braking are standard.

The A4 is among our highest-ranking sports sedan, thanks in part to its satisfying driving experience. Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, mated to a standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The engine is smooth and punchy, and the transmission is slick. We got a commendable 27 mpg overall. Handling is nimble and precise, the ride is supple, and the A4 feels tight-as-a-drum solid, with a very quiet cabin. The fully digital instrument panel shows pertinent information in front of the driver in a clear, comprehensive way, and the center screen is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Interior fit and finish is excellent and the front seats are comfortable, although the rear seat is tight. The A4 has good crash-test results and offers advanced safety features. The high-performance S4's 3.0-liter supercharged V6 was replaced by a turbo V6 in the 2018 redesign. The wagon version is called the Allroad. A freshening for 2020 brings a different infotainment system, moving from a rotary knob that interacts with a center screen, to a touch screen. 2025 is the final model year for the A4, replaced by the A5.

For 2025, Audi consolidated almost its entire lineup of small luxury cars into the A5 and its sporty S5 variant, replacing the A4 sedan, A4 Allroad wagon, S4, and the A5 coupe and convertible. The A4 is replaced by a redesigned version of what is now called the A5 Sportback, which is a four-door model with a hatchback-like trunk opening. There are only two engine options: The A5 gets a 268-hp, turbocharged four-cylinder, while the S5 gets a 362-hp, turbocharged V6. All A5/S5 models have all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Audi says the new car gets sharper steering and the suspension has been tuned for more agile handling. Inside, most physical controls have been replaced by a large infotainment touchscreen. The outgoing A4 and A5 Sportback are selling alongside the new A5 for a duration.

The A6 is redesigned for 2026. It's now built with the same underlying design as the new Q5 SUV and A5 sedan. A sleek new exterior looks like a toned-down version of the all-electric E-Tron GT. For the U.S. market, Audi dropped the A6’s turbo four-cylinder for 2026, so the only engine choice is an updated version of the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that was available on upper trims of previous A6 models. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard, and an adaptive air suspension is optional. The interior gets Audi's Digital Stage setup, complete with multiple LED touchscreens. When we used it on the Q6, we found the Digital Stage took some getting used to and we wished for more physical controls. The A6 Allroad/RS 6 Avant is still on the previous platform.

The Audi A6 E-Tron is a midsized, four-door hatchback EV with a similar style to the automaker's A5 and A7 sportback models. It is offered with three different powertrains when it goes on sale this summer. The base version uses a 375-hp electric motor driving the rear wheels, while the all-wheel-drive E-Tron quattro has two electric motors that combine to produce 456 hp. A high-performance, AWD S6 version will peak 543 hp with launch control. All models have a 100 kWh battery. The automaker says the car is using an 800-volt architecture, which allows it to have a 270 kW maximum acceptance rate at a public DC fast charger. EPA-rated ranges are 324 miles for the S6; 333 miles for the quattro; and 392 miles for the rear-wheel drive on a full charge. The interior is dominated by large screens: an 11.9-inch one in front of the driver curves and blends into the 14.5-inch center touchscreen. An optional 10.9-inch display is available for the front passenger. With a flat floor the three-person rear seat should be roomier than in the similarly-sized A6 with an internal combustion engine.

This mild-hybrid powertrain includes a 48-volt electrical system to ensure accessories don't tax fuel economy. Inside, there is a new control system consisting of two touch screens but it proves fairly easy to use. Fit and finish and seat comfort are superb. A smaller 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine along with higher output turbo V6 and V8 engines will be added later. EPA estimated range for the quattro is 241 miles. A large center touch screen and digital instrument cluster both oriented toward the driver dominate the dash. The driver's seat will include an extra airbag in the right hand bolster to help prevent impact between the driver and front seat passenger in the event of a collision. The Q4 E-Tron comes with a suite of active safety features. For 2024 the 50e becomes the 55e and got more range, horsepower, and quicker charging. The high-performance SQ6, which packs a potent 483 hp, comes only with all-wheel drive. But even the regular dual-motor Q6 we tested is quite quick, sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. It managed 285 miles during our 70-mph highway-range test--a touch below the EPA estimate of 295 miles. Rapid DC fast charging is possible at public stations due to an impressive 270 kW max acceptance rate. The front seats are firm but comfortable and supportive, while the rear seat is roomy. The Q8 is a coupelike SUV based on the Q7, an impressive three-row luxury SUV that is among the best we've tested. The Q8 is wider and lower than the Q7, and it has seating for five passengers. Some functionality is compromised for the more dynamic styling. The Q8 employs a 335-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, mated to a smooth eight-speed automatic. It is quiet, luxurious, and is among the more sporty driving SUVs. The dual touch-screen control interface is daunting at first but isn't too difficult to master. The Q8 features standard forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection; blind spot warning and rear cross traffic warning were made standard starting in 2021. The exterior design was revised for 2024. ACC and LCA are standard as of 2024.

The redesigned 2022 BMW 2 Series is bigger, more powerful, and a little bit heavier, and incorporates the latest performance, safety, and infotainment technology. Not to be confused with the 2 Series Gran Coupe, the new 2 is available either as the rear-wheel-drive 230i coupe powered by a 255-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or the all-wheel-drive M240i XDrive powered by a 382-hp turbo inline-six. The latter, according to BMW, can go from zero to 60 mph in as little as 4.1 seconds. Active safety and driver assistance features such as FCW, AEB, BSW, and RCTW are standard on both versions of the car, and upgrades such as ACC, a head-up display, digital instruments, and adaptive suspension are available. 2025 brought BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 infotainment system.
