Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand, and most Lincoln models are fancier, quieter versions of existing Ford SUVs. The Lincoln Navigator, for example, is based on the Ford Expedition, and the Lincoln Corsair is based on the Ford Escape. Some models are available as hybrids. Lincoln SUVs tend to come with standard leather seating surfaces, large screens, and sound deadening. That interior quality paired with lively powertrains have earned some models Consumer Reports’ recommendation. Lincoln stopped building sedans when it discontinued the Continental and MKZ in 2020. As a brand, for new and used car reliability, road-test scores, and owner satisfaction ratings, Lincoln tends to be average.
The MKC includes luxury and high-tech features, but this Ford Escape-based vehicle falls short of the class leaders. Power is strong, particularly from the 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder, but it returned just 19-mpg overall in our tests. Combined with the small gas tank, that results in a short cruising range. A fussy push-button shifter controls the six-speed automatic. None of the adaptive suspension modes make for a truly comfortable ride. Handling is secure, but agility trails its German rivals. A quiet cabin, plush trim, easy access, and decent rear-seat room enhance livability, but rear visibility is limited.
