The Toyota Corolla Cross debuted for 2022 and fits in the gap between the Toyota C-HR and RAV4. The configurations are simple, with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower matched to a continuously variable transmission is the standard powertrain. All-wheel-drive hybrid versions were added for the 2023 model year and have 196 horsepower. The Corolla Cross managed a decent 28 mpg overall in our test of the all-wheel drive non-hybrid version. This five-seater does embody many Corolla virtues, including a strong roster of safety equipment that counts FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams as standard. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard on midlevel LE and top XLE trims.
