The Borrego has traditional body-on-frame construction and impressive towing capacity. The 3.8-liter V6 delivers strong and refined performance and 16 mpg overall. A 4.6-liter V8 is optional. Steering is responsive but handling can get a bit lumbering. Emergency handling can be disconcerting, but stability control keeps it ultimately secure. The ride is stiff and punishing and the Borrego tends to heave and pitch in bumpy corners. Interior room is generous, with a useful third-row seat, and the quiet cabin is well-finished. Controls are simple and there is lots of equipment for the price. The Borrego was discontinued after the 2009 model.
