Cadillac is primarily a luxury brand, selling quieter and higher-tech variants of Chevrolet vehicles. Its SUV line spans from compact options up to the enormous Escalade. Several boldly designed EV models have excellent range, quick acceleration, and fast charging speeds. There’s also the V-Series, a line of performance versions available for several vehicles, which can compete with the best sports sedans from Europe. Most models are available with excellent driver assistance tech, including GM’s Super Cruise. New car reliability across the brand is average. Several new models are Consumer Reports recommended for their interior quality, comfort, and fit and finish. We also recommend some of the brand’s used models.
The new for 2020 CT5 replaced the CTS and is designed to compete with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The CT5 drives well, thanks to its taut and agile handling. The ride is steady and well controlled. The standard engine is a responsive, but noisy, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The uplevel choice is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Both are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that tends to delay upshifts. The sedan is offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. Controls are much more user-friendly than in other recent Cadillacs, but 2025 brought more complexities. Standard safety systems include forward collision warning and city-speed automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and Cadillac's Super Cruise advanced driver assistance system were new for 2021. News for 2022 includes a high-performance Blackwing version, which comes with a 668-hp 6.2-liter supercharged V8 and is available with a six-speed manual transmission or 10-speed automatic. This sporty CT5 also gets brake and suspension upgrades. Blind spot warning and rear cross traffic warning became standard.
The 2025 CT5 was refreshed and received changes including exterior styling updates, a new 33-inch infotainment and instrument cluster screen, along with more safety features such as blind spot assistance, and traffic sign recognition.
