The midsized Santa Fe SUV has been redesigned for the 2024 model year, giving it boxy styling and a striking interior along with a standard (albeit small) third-row seat. We tested both the conventional model with its 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, and the hybrid which combines a smaller turbo-four with electric drive and a conventional six-speed automatic. The hybrid proved the better pick; it’s smoother at low speeds and significantly more fuel-efficient, at 34 mpg overall, although it accelerates a bit more slowly. Regardless of the powertrain, the Santa Fe’s handling is responsive, the ride is steady and comfortable, and the cabin is reasonably quiet. The dash features a large, curved screen that integrates the dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver's instrument screen and the infotainment system. The cargo area is generous and the rear hatch opening is wide.
