The Kia EV9 lands in the heart of the popular mid-sized three-row SUV as the first fully electric family hauler offered by a mainstream brand. The six- or seven-seater is based on the E-GMP platform used for other Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia electric vehicles, and it's about the same size as the Telluride SUV. Single-motor with 215-hp rear-wheel drive or 379-hp, dual-motor all-wheel drive are offered. The 99.8 kWh battery provides an estimated EPA range of 304 miles for the long range rear-wheel drive, and 280 miles for the all-wheel drive. Both AC and DC-fast charging are relatively quick. The EV9 is quick and quiet. The ride is a bit firm but comfortable and handling is responsive but not sporty. Some controls are unusual but are easy enough to get used to. All versions come standard with a full suite of advanced safety and driver assist features including a lane change assist when using the adaptive cruise control.
