Volvo's XC60 is a compact luxury SUV with elegant, high-quality interior. The plug-in hybrid version, badged T8 Recharge has an EPA-estimated 35 mile range on electric power only, after which it transitions to regular hybrid operation and gets 28 mpg. It takes five hours to charge the 18.8 kWh battery on 240 volt power. This semi electric Volvo is very quick and the transitions between electric and gas power are unobtrusive. Handling is taut and responsive. Like the rest of the XC60 line, the car suffers from convoluted and distracting controls and a stiff ride. The small infotainment screen and lack of wireless CarPlay show the XC60's age. The cabin benefits from very comfortable and supportive seats, a clean, stylish Scandinavian-inspired interior design, and a nicely finished cargo hold. For 2025, the PHEV version is no longer called the Recharge.
