Redesigned for 2017, the Civic Si, available as either a coupe or a four-door sedan, uses a powerful 205-hp, 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that revs easily, sounds invigorating. The high- performance Type R with a 306-hp, 2.0-liter turbo engine also debuted in the U.S.. The standard six-speed manual transmission has ideally spaced gear ratios and shifts crisply. It gets a commendable 32 mpg overall in our tests. However, the Si falls short as a sports sedan. While the handling is capable, it is uninspiring and lacking in finesse, and the steering lacks feel and response. The ride is very stiff and noise levels are extremely high. The Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver assisted technologies became standard for 2020.
