2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser

The FJ Cruiser's styling is a contemporary echo of the rugged early FJ40 Land Cruisers from decades ago. While its off-road prowess is superb, the model is full of compromises. Chunky roof pillars and slit-like windows cause horrendous outward visibility, while the rear-hinged back doors provide poor cabin access and are difficult to close. Handling is clumsy and can be disconcerting at the limits, although the standard stability control keeps the Toyota secure enough. Ride quality is compliant but jiggly and wind noise dominates the cabin. The 4.0-liter V6 powertrain is smooth and punchy, but returned just 17 mpg overall. Changes were minor through its model run; 2014 was its last year.
