2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid

The Escape plug-in hybrid comes as a front-drive only. It has a 37-mile electric range before transitioning into regular hybrid operation. As a hybrid, it has an EPA estimate of 40 mpg. It takes about five hours to charge the battery on a 240V charger. Unlike other PHEVs, when in electric mode, needing full power requires an agreement by the driver to turn on the gas engine. Drivers can reserve the electric portion for later if so chosen. The PHEV's ride is steady and composed. Handling is quite agile. The cabin is reasonably quiet, whether on electric or gas. 2023 brings a 13.2-inch infotainment screen with touch-based climate controls. The front seats are decently comfortable, but a limited range of motion compromises the driving position for some. The rear seat is quite roomy when set to the rearmost position. 2026 will be the last year of production for the Escape plug-in hybrid.
