Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group’s upscale brand, competes with well-established luxury automakers, but its vehicles often cost less than European equivalents. The brand sells a variety of sedans and SUVs, including several EVs. In Consumer Reports’ tests, Genesis models have impressed. Their ride and handling are balanced, fit and finish is excellent, and meaningful driver assistance systems are usually standard. Unfortunately, the once easy-to-use controls in earlier models have become more complicated. Reliability varies: some models have dropped to below average reliability ratings, while others achieved average reliability, enough to earn Consumer Reports’ recommendations.
The Genesis GV60 is a small crossover, building on an electric platform shared with the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It is offered in two levels--Standard and Performance--with power ranging from 225 to 429 hp. A boost mode can juice output to 483 horsepower for 10 exhilarating seconds. It boasts other tech innovations like facial recognition to unlock the vehicle from the outside and a fingerprint reader to start it. As the name implies, it is a few inches smaller than the GV70 but its long wheelbase is the same as the Tesla Model Y's. Rear-wheel-drive models were added in 2024.
