2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Chevrolet sells a wide range of sedans, coupes, compact SUVs, large SUVs, EVs, and pickup trucks. Most models have roomy interiors and come with standard safety and convenience technology. Several models, however, have poor visibility and lack steering agility. Many Chevrolets rank average or below average for reliability in CR’s rankings. The brand stands out for selling historically significant and category-defining vehicles. The Suburban and Tahoe can keep three rows of passengers comfortable within their enormous cabins. The Silverado pickup truck competes with the best-selling Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 by balancing interior comfort with towing and cargo capability. In the past and today, the Camaro and Corvette are performance car bargains. The rear/mid-engined “C8” Corvette can be as thrilling as much more expensive European supercars. With some exceptions, used Chevrolets can have reliability issues, but are often less expensive to maintain and repair than competitors.

The Silverado HD exterior is now more visually distinguished from the Silverado 1500 with the redesign. Aside from its roof shared with the light-duty Silverado, all other visible elements are unique to the work-focused HD truck. The standard engine is a 401-hp, 6.6-liter V8 with a six-speed transmission. A 445-hp, 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 engine with a 10-speed transmission is also available. The new truck is 10 inches longer than the previous one, which translates to more legroom. GM claims that the new HD, when properly equipped, can tow up to 35,500 pounds. Available safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic warning. Updates for 2021 include more trims that are available with FCW, AEB, BSW, and rear cross traffic warning. The HD lineup got an update for the 2024 model year. The freshened models can be distinguished by their C-shaped LED headlamp treatment, but the big news is on the inside: The reworked interior mimics the recently updated Silverado 1500, with a large infotainment screen canted toward the driver, along with a configurable instrument panel. The gas V8 engine is a carryover but will now be mated to a 10-speed automatic in place of the previous six-speed. As if it needed more grunt, the optional 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 has been massaged to produce 470 hp and 975 lb.-ft. of torque. The news we're most happy about, though, is that Chevy is making FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, and LDW standard equipment across all trims. ACC will be optional.
