2024 Honda HR-V

Hondas are generally affordable, reliable, and fuel-efficient, with intuitive controls and good driving characteristics. Its SUVs and sedans are usually near the top of Consumer Reports’ ratings for road tests and predicted reliability. Many Hondas have earned Consumer Reports recommendations. Used Hondas also score near the top of our reliability rankings for 5- and 10-year-old vehicles, making it a brand worth considering for options under $20,000. Honda’s SUVs include sub-compact models like the HR-V and compact CR-V, one of the best-selling SUVs in North America. The two-row Passport and three-row Pilot are larger options. Honda’s sedans include the compact Civic and the midsized Accord. Honda also makes the Odyssey minivan and the Ridgeline, a midsized pickup truck. For buyers seeking fuel efficiency, several of the most popular models are available with hybrid powertrains that get competitive mpg figures and are pleasant to drive.

The redesigned-for-2023 HR-V has been upgraded to the latest Civic platform. It's a larger and more pleasant vehicle than the outgoing model, but the improvements to the ride quality and sound insulation still don't go far enough. Handling is ordinary but ultimately secure. It's a practical and user-friendly small SUV, although its 158-hp, 2.0-liter engine and continuously variable transmission make the HR-V feel underpowered. The controls and infotainment system are very easy to use. The base LX and mid-level Sport get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the top EX-L gets a 9-inch screen and wireless device charging. The HR-V comes standard with FCW, AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, LDW, and LKA. While both BSW and RCTW are standard on the Sport and EX-L, neither are available on the base LX--a disappointment. Lane centering assistance, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams are standard across all trims.
