Other brands have caught up, but Volvo maintains its deserved reputation for safety innovation and quality fit and finish. Volvos also stand out for its attractive exterior styling and for having some of the nicest interiors in the industry, with especially comfortable seats. The brand’s XC line of SUVs range from compact and two-row to midsized and three-row. Volvo also sells sedans and station wagons, along with several EVs, ranging from small to large. Most of Volvo’s new cars scored average or below-average in our reliability rankings, and the infotainment systems on many models are less intuitive than what you’ll find in competitors’ cars. Our testers have also found that Volvos aren’t great at absorbing bumps, and have average fuel economy. Among used Volvos, some models have proven to be reliable enough to earn our recommendation.
Volvo adds the all-new, all-electric EX30, a small SUV priced in the mid $40,000. Two powertrain choices are offered: a 268-hp single-motor version with rear-wheel drive, or a 422-hp dual-motor version with all-wheel drive. The rear-wheel-drive version has an estimated range of up to 261 miles and 253 miles for the all-wheel-drive version. The interior design is super minimalist, with a single center-mounted touchscreen housing the speedometer, climate control interface, and infotainment. Even adjusting the mirrors is done through the screen. The interior is chock-full of recycled and natural materials. Safety features include a warning if occupants are about to open a door into the path of an oncoming cyclist. Volvo is launching the twin-motor AWD versions first in the US.
