Audi sells a wide range of sedans and SUVs with luxurious interiors and lots of technology. Several of its SUVs and sedans have earned CR’s recommendation for balancing driver and passenger comfort with smooth power and nimble handling. In most cases, buyers shopping for sedans and SUVs in the luxury category should consider Audi’s options. Fit and finish quality reaches even the lowest-priced models. However, like most luxury cars from European brands, maintenance and repair costs can be expensive, making used Audis difficult to recommend. Typically, Audi identifies sedans with the letter A, SUVs with the letter Q, and numbers that increase according to size. The Q3 is a compact crossover while the Q8 is a three-row SUV. Models that start with S or RS are tuned for performance and have more power, stiffer suspension, and more aerodynamic exterior details. All-electric models have the E-tron suffix.
The midsized Audi Q6 E-Tron SUV uses the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) chassis developed with Porsche for use throughout the Volkswagen Group, including underpinning the Porsche Macan Electric. It is 4 inches longer and about 3 inches wider than the Q5, although it is the same height. It launches with three versions: the 302-hp Q6 E-tron has rear-wheel drive while both the 422-hp Q6 E-Tron Quattro and the sportier 483-hp SQ6 E-Tron each have all-wheel drive. All versions have the ability to briefly boost horsepower for rapid acceleration in launch mode. The EPA range of the rear-wheel drive model has 321 miles, while the AWD Q6 E-Tron has a range of 307 miles. A coupe-like Sportback body style is also available. The Q8 comes with a full suite of active safety features. The interior is dominated by large screens: an 11.9-inch one in front of the driver curves and blends into the 14.5-inch center touchscreen. An optional 10.9-inch display is available for the front passenger.
