Cadillac is primarily a luxury brand, selling quieter and higher-tech variants of Chevrolet vehicles. Its SUV line spans from compact options up to the enormous Escalade. Several boldly designed EV models have excellent range, quick acceleration, and fast charging speeds. There’s also the V-Series, a line of performance versions available for several vehicles, which can compete with the best sports sedans from Europe. Most models are available with excellent driver assistance tech, including GM’s Super Cruise. New car reliability across the brand is average. Several new models are Consumer Reports recommended for their interior quality, comfort, and fit and finish. We also recommend some of the brand’s used models.
For 2020, Cadillac replaced the ATS with the new CT4, slotting it beneath the CT5. It drives well with handling, braking, and steering that befit a well-honed sports sedan. The base engine is a 237-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic. There is also a 2.7-liter turbo paired to a 10-speed automatic. The sporty CT4-V gets a 325-hp, 2.7-liter turbo four cylinder. All trims are available in rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations. The 2.0-liter engine is responsive, but it doesn't sound particularly refined. Handling is agile and the ride is taut, yet mutes harsh impacts. The front seats are comfortable, but the rear is very cramped. Fit and finish is top notch. Advanced safety systems are available on all but the base trim for 2020. These became standard on all versions for 2021. Plus, Cadillac's Super Cruise partially automated driving system, which can automatically brake and steer on specific highways while the driver’s hands are off the wheel, is now available. Finally, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity is new for 2021. News for 2022 includes a high-performance Blackwing version, which comes with a 472-hp 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 and is available with a six-speed manual transmission or 10-speed automatic. This sporty CT4 also gets brake and suspension upgrades. Lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic warning became standard.
