2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

Subaru is known for no-nonsense SUVs with standard full-time all-wheel drive. Its cars frequently rank near the top of Consumer Reports’ Owner Satisfaction and reliability ratings, making some used Subarus a good choice. Along with all-wheel drive, Subarus are known for using a “boxer” style four-cylinder engine with opposing pistons that move horizontally. The design reduces vibration and gives the vehicle a low center of gravity. No Subaru would be considered luxurious, but most have options like heated seats and leather upholstery. Unfortunately, blind spot warning (BSW) and rear cross traffic warning (RCTW) are often optional, so buyers must pay extra for important safety features. Subaru hasn’t offered a hybrid since the plug-in hybrid Crosstrek was discontinued in 2024. The Solterra, a pure EV based on the Toyota bZ4x, charges slowly and has short range. For the 2026 model year, the Subaru Crosstrek will be available with a hybrid powertrain. It is powered by a typical Subaru 2.5-liter 'boxer' engine, augmented by a 1.1-kWh battery pack. Like the regular Crosstrek, it too has a continuously variable transmission. The total system output is 194 horsepower, which is 12 horsepower more than the non-hybrid 2.5-liter engine. Naturally, all-wheel drive is standard. The cabin sees the analog gauges replaced with a digital instrument panel. The hybrid's exterior is distinguished with exclusive colors and wheels, plus obligatory badging. The Crosstrek Hybrid comes with the latest EyeSight driver assist features, adding a driver re-engagement system that can bring the vehicle to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive to warnings while using adaptive cruise control. Additional active safety features include RCTW, reverse AEB, and BSW with lane change assist.
