2012 Scion xB

The Scion brand started as a youth-oriented division of Toyota, offering smaller, less-expensive coupes and hatchbacks with sportier designs. Some Scion models gained mainstream appeal, but the brand was discontinued and absorbed back into Toyota in 2016. The Scion iM was rebranded as the rebadged Toyota Corolla iM, and evolved into the Corolla Hatchback. The Mazda-built iA subcompact sedan was rebadged as the Toyota Yaris, and discontinued in 2020. The rear-drive Scion FR-S lives on as the Toyota GR86.

The xB grew longer and wider with the 2008 redesign. The amount of interior space offered, given the exterior dimensions, is quite impressive. Two adults will fit into the back seat with ease; three can be accommodated in a pinch. The 2.4-liter engine delivers better performance, but worse fuel economy -- only 23 mpg with the automatic transmission. While the revised styling improved interior comfort, it hurt outward visibility to the rear. Later models offered a rear-view camera to try to compensate.
