2014 Cadillac ELR

Cadillac is primarily a luxury brand, selling quieter and higher-tech variants of Chevrolet vehicles. Its SUV line spans from compact options up to the enormous Escalade. Several boldly designed EV models have excellent range, quick acceleration, and fast charging speeds. There’s also the V-Series, a line of performance versions available for several vehicles, which can compete with the best sports sedans from Europe. Most models are available with excellent driver assistance tech, including GM’s Super Cruise. New car reliability across the brand is average. Several new models are Consumer Reports recommended for their interior quality, comfort, and fit and finish. We also recommend some of the brand’s used models.

The sleekly raked ELR is the Cadillac version of the Chevrolet Volt. Like the Volt, the ELR's plug-in electric/gasoline powertrain allows it to run on electricity alone for up to 37 miles before resorting to the 1.4-liter four-cylinder to extend the range up to 340 miles. Chrome, nicely-stitched leather, wood trim, and carbon fiber accents create a warm, luxurious interior, but visibility is wanting. A full suite of advanced safety alert systems, including forward-collision, blind-spot, and cross-traffic alert is available. The instrument panel features the CUE infotainment system, which we have found distracting and frustrating. It was discontinued after 2016.
