The overview
The Grenadier is an off-road vehicle with few compromises made for daily on-road driving. Available as an SUV or a four-door pickup, standard equipment includes four-wheel drive with low-range gearing, a locking center differential, and all-terrain tires. Its turbocharged six-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission are shared with the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra, albeit retuned to 282 hp and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. This combination provides smooth power and holds the selected gear well when crawling over rocks. On pavement, the Grenadier suffers from slow steering that requires extra effort to unwind after turns, bouncy ride quality, dismal fuel economy, and poor isolation from wind and road noise. The Grenadier's features can be operated entirely with physical controls, but its cabin layout could be more intuitive. Missing features include niceties like power-adjustable seats as well as some basics, like blind spot warning and a separate driver's information display.

Behind the data

Vehicle summaries, specifications, pricing and ratings come from Consumer Reports vehicle records. Auto Guide groups these records by model and reported generation start year.
Available years are listed explicitly. Gaps do not imply that a model was discontinued. Prices are source estimates, not live offers. No first-hand road test by Auto Guide is claimed.
